MTV is breaking some important ground by empowering individuals to create personalized video blogs within the MTV Network. It's called "The Pod, Broadcast Yourself." The video upload is processed through VideoEgg and the content management system used by MTV is from iUpload, an 8-year old content management systems business in Toronto. We spoke with iUpload CEO Robin Hopper at the Beet.TV studios. We think that it is very cool that software applications can be used to grow and manage networks of individuals, large and small. I mean, it's great to vlog, but how cool is it to empower others to create vlog networks with you? Another great technology platform for creating personalized blog networks is called "GoingOn" which was recently launched as part of the new AlwaysOn Network. This is Blair Eisenbraun (me) doing an improv MTV Cribs spoof. His friend Ben is holding the camera. The story is thus: Blair and Ben were power-ATVing around on his land and the surrounding areas, and the came across a terribly dilapidated house on the side of a seemingly prominent dirt road. Ben asked Blair if Blair had ever heard of MTV Cribs, and Blair replied LET'S DO IT." You are watching the product of this happenstance occurrence. Oh, one thing: you'll notice that at one point in the video, my accent inexplicably changes. I have no idea why I switched accents like I did; I just know I noticed and went back to the original accent. lel

The world of online video syndication between major content creators and portals has shifted into high gear over the past two days. Yesterday, Yahoo! Finance announced that it would host hundreds of CNBC clips. Today, MTV Networks announced that it is syndicating a substantial amount of videos onto AOL Video. Shows from MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and others are included.Seems like a good business proposition: Content producers need an audience and big portals need quality content. (Update 12/13 InternetNews.com has some additional information on how advertising works in this venture.)Fred McIntyre is VP of Video at AOL. Fred has been making some big moves lately in lining up strategic partners to distribute downloadable videos with Amazon and big syndication deals like the one announced today.Fred & MeFred has been on Beet.TV a couple of times. I am proud to call him a fan. Recently I saw him at the NewTeeVee confab in San Francisco. I asked to interview him. Fred said nope, but he would interview me! I shared some thoughts about Beet.TV and spoke about our new video blog about women's health, a brand extension of sorts. It will be called Beet.TV, The Root of Medicine -- it will launch in January.
